I went on the keto diet for 3 months, let me tell you how it went....

February 2022, I weighed 85kg+ (188lbs). My stomach was so big. I had fat man tits. I had a true fat dad bod. I kinda blame the increase in my weight due to the recent cooking adventures I started, which forced me to eat all the food I made, despite me usually making well more than one portion. I also ate alot of fast food and frozen food which did not help. I was always heavily breathing. I was severely out of shape. Something had to change.

This is where I first got introduced to the ketogenic diet. I saw this video from this doctor on youtube, proclaiming the massive health benefits of the keto diet, and the cutting of the evil food called "sugars". Now, what is the ketogenic diet? "The ketogenic diet is a very low carb, a high-fat diet that shares many similarities with the Atkins and low carb diets".  Basically, you are trying to eat as little sugar as possible, and lots of protein and fat to compensate.

"That's it" I said to myself. Its time to stop being a fatty and its time to lose weight. I gave myself a week to prepare. No toast, no crisps, no chocolate, no sweets, no chips, no pasta, no carbs at ALL. I didn't realise this at first, but this was going to be brutal since I pretty much had to change my whole diet. I remember starting it on a Wednesday, Idk why, I just did.

They is nothing worse than going through the supermarket and looking at the nutritional content of everything in the store. Not many people know this, but literally, 98% of the food and drinks are NOT keto friendly in supermarkets. I began to realize the unbelievable amount of sugar in everyday things we consume. Even KETCHUP, is not keto friendly. I had to try to eat as little ketchup as possible.

Let's start with the drinks, I usually drank a variety of fruit juices and some occasional fizzy drinks. Now I could only pretty much drink water. Not even gonna lie. At first, this was bad since the body is used to them sweet sweet drinks, but over time, drinking water felt so good.

Now, the food..... the painful part. My diet pretty much consided of meats (chicken, beef, lamb, fish), a bunch of vegetables (cauliflower, broccolli, carrot, onions etc....), lots of nuts (cashews, almonds, peanuts), a bowl of porridge in the morning with honey and other low sugar, high protein foods such as certain yoghurts and cheeses. I even ate vegan meat as well since I was tired of eating meat and vegetables . Let me but a notice out here, vegan meat and food is so fricking bad, never gonna touch that shit again. I had multiple vegan products, usually made from soy meat. They all taste the same and taste so bland.

I made a bunch of different foods. One of my favorites was the lettuce lamb burgers with grilled onions. Yum! I made a cauliflower pizza and many chicken roasts. I made soups, meatballs, kebabs.... the list goes on. The problem with the keto diet is the amount of time you are in the kitchen. The keto diet is brutal. Premade keto food is way too expensive for a brokie for me, and keto food in general is usually expensive. On top of that, the food is not as delicious and it takes ages to cook. My cooking skills ain't that good as well. I burnt my meatball dish and spend hours cleaning the pan. I didn't even eat it, it tasted awful.

At the start, I had the "keto flu". This is basically where you feel awful. It can last around 4-6 weeks, but mine lasted around 3 weeks. At the start I lost around 3-4kg. This is usually water weight that is lost. I also began exercising and going gym as well to help with the weight loss. It was all good at the start, the weight drops drastically at first but it quickly plateaus after a few weeks.

After 2 weeks with no weight loss, I went back to consult with the youtube videos. I had been missing one step. Intermittent fasting. This is where you eat 2 meals a day, in an 8-hour timeframe, and only drinking water within that timeframe. I did this 6 weeks in, and the effect really started showing. i lost 7-8kg within another 6 weeks. Unfortunately, my keto diet would come to an end.

After 3 months of keto, exercising, and 6 weeks of fasting, I became seriously ill. I most probably had corona or something similar. I had a bad fever, severe pains, diarrhea, and a really bad lack of appetite. I was mostly bedridden and after 2-3 days of barely eating, I, unfortunately, ended the keto diet and started eating junk food to increase my calorie intake.

I lost a lot of weight during the time. I went from 85kg to around 72kg. I went from fat to borderline skinny. Sucess I guess? Anyways, let me know about any diets you have been on. See the contact tab if you would like to get in contact and ask about my keto diet. Cya :P
