Before we get to reviewing Black Adam, Mountain is forcing me to review another movie called "Muriel's Wedding". This movie is a rom-com type movie from 1994 and is Mountain's favorite movie. I ain't gonna lie, I never heard of this movie before Mountain mentioned it, proclaiming it as a masterpiece and claiming he has watched it several times. This movie is...... it's alright. I'll rather watch this movie over the Black Adam. It's about this woman with very little confidence, living with her lazy, useless family. She was unemployeed and depressed. The movie progresses the character Muriel to a self-confident, independent and proud woman. She went from dreaming of being married and loved, to knowing what she actually wants and not needing to fit in the crowd.
The movie truly progresses when she befriends an old school class mate, and also has sad scenes where he mother commited suicide. I won't go too in detail about the movie, you should watch it for yourselfs. Anyways, I would give Mountain's favorite movie a solid 7/10. Its well written, it has good attention to detail, it makes sense (Which *cough* black adam doesn't), but it just does not hit me. Mainly its a story about woman, oriented around woman. Obviously I couldn't give a shit, maybe cause I don't have a feminine side. I aint gonna lie, I find it kinda cringe when the woman in the movie classing marriage as "they made it". Bro, over the movie, best friends where sucking each others husbands off in secret, you haven't made it. All you have done is lost time and money and you have snakes as friends. Anyways, tldr, its a well exucuted movie, but honestly, I cannot relate to anything in the movie at all. Nothing particularly interests me, and I wouldn't watch it again. This movie is for woman and gay men ngl.
Marvel movies (and to an extend DC movies as well) have really fallen off a cliff for the past 2 years. The rise of superhero movies over a decade ago, produced amazing movies, where superheroes where doing badass stunts, badass fighting and fighting badass villians. Over the rise of superhero movies, some absolute trash was produced on the way ( such as Suicide Squad, thor 2 and iron man 2 to name a few), but these movies didn't overall derail the superhero movie train. But as this train reached it peak with movies such as avengers infinity war and avengers endgame, many fans where excited to see the new age of superheroes movies...... But then corona hit.
While majority of people saw this as a bad thing, where movie productions where forced to be pushed back 6 months to over 2 years in some cases, one would expect that the movies would get better as they had longer times to finish. Absolutely not! The superhero movies post pandemic have mostly been absolute garbage. With a few exceptions like The Batman played Robert patterson, amongst 1-2 other movies, the superhero/supervillian movies have been absolutely shocking. An I don't mean shocking as in horrifically terrible, I mean they are just un-inspiring, predictable, confusing with crappy humour. And Black Adam is just the latest victim of the cash grabbing franchise of superheroes.
I will include some spoilers here, so feel free to skip this and the next paragraph. The movie starts off with a flashback of the past, of this evil king forcing his people to dig for this super overpowered rock that I have never heard of in my life. A kid rises up and steals this rock, and inspires all the slaves to fight back. The kid gets captured and is about to beheaded, but he vanishes just before the blade hits him (how convenient!) and some wizards give him magic to defeat the evil king. Fast forward 5000 yrs, the city is under control by terrorists, and a boy and his mum try to find an evil crown to hide from the terrorists? I honestly don't know why she tries finding it, If it's been hidden for 5000 years, it can stay hidden for longer, why tf are you finding this evil crown. Anyways, she awakens the rock from some stone, idfk and he kills all the bad guys. He gets injured and the woman takes him to her house. If a man did that tho, he is getting jailed and cancelled for life ngfl.
Anyways, after some more bullshit, some four random heroes I have never heard in my life come to detain the rock, but the people rebel against this as the rock is their hero. But the four random heroes know that the rock isnt the hero and he destroyed the city 5000 years ago. Anyways they fight, they lose to the rock obviously, and the rock spills the been saying he is not the champion, but the champion's son who killed everyone to avenge his sons death. They fight more, find this woman's lost kid, the rock gets sad and voluntary gets locked up. Suprise suprise, the bad guy gets the crown, turns evil and they need the rock to save the day.
SPOILERS ARE OVER HERE. Bro, this whole movie just stinks of shit. It is boring, its got such a predictable storyline, the humor in the movie is so bad and safe and the story has so many plot holes which made the story so unrealistic and hard to follow. Convenience in the story is the biggest killer in this movie. Convenience kills most of the superhero movies tbh. Things like, the movie needs a villain, what convenience that the evil king has one last living heir who happens to look for the crown exactly 5000 years later. They is a rock that magically stops the Rock's power just like superman, which hurts him a lot. How creatively unique! Just like Superman, he can't be stopped and is all-powerful! The Rock can magically speak English as well after being asleep for 5000 years!
Let me get on to the characters, cause they are in my opinion the worst part of the movie. They is a girl with superhuman IQ and wind powers which suprisingly she contributes nothing towards the movie, just like her male counterpart, a low IQ, super strong and goofy beginner superhero. How inspiring, making the female counterpart significantly superior by making the male counterpart absolutely useless since its a male. Luckily, thats only the woke garbage in this movie. Oh wait, I didn't include the fat, homer simpson like brother of the mother in the movie. The other two super heroes are also vaguely described, which leads to me not giving a shit, since I have no emotional connection to these characters.
Literally, Black Adam possesses nothing unique that gives it an edge over other superhero movies in the genre. It's just typical garbage produced by DC, which will make millions of dollars all because The Rock stars in the movie, smh. Unfortunately, this is the new norm of movies, and people are started to figure out that superhero movies are actually trash and they are actually significantly better movies out there. Bad reviews start rolling in, which can seriously hurt movies, so DC have a backup. Fake reviews posted by bots. See the image below.
They are hundreds of 5 star reviews from these bots, giving Black Adam a 4.6 out of 5 on the google ratings. I aint dissapointed by this, Im dissapointed by the well respected IMDB giving Black Adam a 7.2 out of 10. Luckily, on rottentomatoes, the reviews by critics are more reasonable (which is suprising, as critics on here have given notoriously bad movies good reviews), which reflects the real opinion on most peoples thoughts on watching this movie.
Anyways, time for my review. I give Black Adam a 6/10. I would watch it again, it is not awful, but I was seriously disappointed in this movie. Please make sure you are subscribed to the mailing list below, goodbye!
